The Full Story
About Laura
My journey toward a "second act" as a children's book author

Early Days
I've been expressing myself through writing for as long as I can remember. My first "publication" was a story I wrote in second grade, called Hello Kitty Meets New Friends (the so-called publication entailed my mother typing it for me on the computer). Throughout my childhood I wrote several different stories aimed at an audience of my peers, often involving the Sanrio cast of characters.

Later in childhood, I took an interest in poetry (the likes of Shel Silverstein) and decided I wanted to be a poet when I grew up.
Choosing the Practical Route
The short story is: I chose the practical career path. I became an elementary school teacher instead of a writer. I taught literacy for seven years, and obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum from Michigan State University, with a concentration in children's literature.

I left the classroom in 2017 to become a technical trainer, and later shifted into an instructional designer role.

The Next Chapter
I've always maintained a deep love for children's literature and YA fiction. Since becoming a mom of two, I've been able to revisit my favorite childhood classics and explore more contemporary texts with my children.

I am ready to take a leap into the world of writing. I am eager to contribute rich, character-driven stories to the young readers everywhere.
More to Know
I grew up in the Midwest (Michigan), so I apologize a lot. Ope! Sorry!
I taught upper elementary grades in three different states before leaving the profession.
I'm more of a cat person than a dog person. I think my personality is a bit cat-like.
My favorite adult authors are Emily Giffin, Katherine Center, Lisa Genova, & Taylor Jenkins Reid.
I briefly attended Miami University (Ohio) to study art education before transferring to MSU.
I used to play tennis, golf, and volleyball. I still like to sing.
Controversial, but I don't enjoy spooky season!
I'm a little addicted to vanilla sweet cream cold brews.
